Over 40,000 Filipinos call Mississauga home
Mississauga is the sixth largest city in Canada, with a population of over 700,000. Canada’s largest airport, Toronto Pearson International Airport is located in Mississauga, as are a growing number of multinational corporations including Citigroup, Kimberly Clark and PepsiCo.
It is home to a thriving Filipino-Canadian community. According to the 2011 census, there are almost 40,000 residents who identify as being Filipino, with Tagalog being the 6th most common language spoken.
Filipinos in Mississauga are very active in their communities, maintaining close relations with representatives of the City of Mississauga, including former mayor Hazel McCallion and present mayor Bonnie Crombie.
