Filipino-Canadian’s design chosen as symbol for Canada 150

Canada is celebrating the 150th Anniversary of Confederation on 2017, and a contest was held to choose the symbol for the anniversary. Heritage Canada opened the competition to Canadian post-secondary students, who submitted their visions for the anniversary.

The chosen design was made by Ariana Mari Cuvin. Immigrating to Canada with her family in 2002, Cuvin studied Global Business and Digital Arts at the University of Waterloo. “The Maple Leaf is the nation’s most iconic symbol, and I used subtle design choices to represent Canada and its Confederation,” Cuvin said.
